Fewer direct US routes than MBJ, and it serves a different mix of travelers, more business trips, diaspora visits, and independent cultural travel than resort tourism. Book this one only if your stay is actually near Kingston: landing at KIN means roughly a 4-hour drive to Negril or 2 to 2.5 hours to Ocho Rios via the toll road. One thing worth checking before you book: the closest-sounding airport isn't always the fastest drive. A Negril stay still means a 75-minute transfer from MBJ, and Ian Fleming doesn't shorten that for every north coast resort despite sitting closer to Ocho Rios on a map. Check your resort's actual drive time from each airport, not just which one looks nearest.

MBJ's arrival hall also gets its worst congestion between 11 AM and 2 PM, when several international flights land within the same window. If your schedule allows it, an early morning or late afternoon arrival clears immigration noticeably faster.

How Long Does It Take to Fly to Jamaica from the US?

Flight time depends on your departure city and whether your route is nonstop.

Nonstop flight times to Montego Bay (MBJ) and Kingston (KIN):

Connecting flights through Miami, Charlotte, or Orlando add one to three hours beyond nonstop times, on top of whatever route above applies once you're on the connecting leg.

Book nonstop whenever your city offers it. A connection through Miami on a Southwest route, for example, stretches a 1-hour 45-minute nonstop flight into a 6-hour trip.

Morning departures give you more room to recover if a connection runs late. We schedule far fewer rebooked pickups for early JFK-to-Miami-to-MBJ itineraries than for the afternoon versions of the same route, a delay earlier in the day still leaves a later connecting flight to catch.
